In addition to our DSPS Certificate Programs, we also offer individual DSPS courses to enhance your language skills. Certificates are not offered for these individual courses.
Courses Offered
Functional living skills designed for adults with intellectual or developmental differences as they relate to living at home, exploring the community, and working on the job. In this class, you will: explore health and wellness topics including nutrition, stress, hygiene, and self-esteem; how to stay safe in your home, the community, and during emergencies; and social interaction topics including peer pressure and harassment, making friends, conflict resolution, and communication skills.
Functional reading and math skills designed for adults with intellectual or developmental differences as they relate to living at home, exploring the community, and working on the job. In this class, you will: explore reading topics including background knowledge, fact vs. opinion, and inference; analyze persuasive and functional texts; evaluate topics of media literacy and internet safety; examine budgeting and banking issues, money management, and shopping; use measurement; utilize calendars; and explore time management.
Music appreciation for physically disabled adults residing in a residential care facility. Emphasis on singing, rhythm, timing, and listening.
Adaptive art techniques for disabled adults residing in a residential care facility. Emphasis on techniques to encourage the creative and artistic process for adults who experience physical and emotional challenges.
