SLAM (Statistics and Liberal Arts Math) courses are for students pursuing a program of study that does not require calculusMost students seeking an certificates, AA, AS, or transfer programs that do not require calculus, can choose from the SLAM options.

To meet your GE math requirement you only need one math course. Your placement allows you to select from any of the SLAM math courses.  Please check your Educational Plan or see a counselor to make sure you choose the course that best meets your educational goals.

Note to Business Majors: Some business majors require calculus; therefore,students with those majors must follow the STEM sequence.  

Programs that Require SLAM Courses

SLAM Courses

If your major requires Statistics or Liberal Arts Math, you will need to take one of the classes listed here, but it may vary depending on your major and the school you want to transfer to.

  • Statistics: 黑料正能量C offers three statistics options, depending on your major.
    • Stat 050 鈥淓lementary Statistics鈥 is a 4-unit, transferrable course that is a general statistic course.  Students can elect to take a 0.5-unit, non-transferrable support course Stat 150 鈥淪upport for Elementary Statistics鈥 along with Stat 050.  These courses are taught by faculty in the Mathematics Division.
    • Stat 015 鈥淪tatistics for Business & Economics鈥 is a 4-unit, transferrable course that provides an emphasis on applications in the areas of Business and Economics.  This course is taught by faculty in the Business Division.
    • Stat 018 鈥淪tatistics for Behavioral & Social Sciences鈥 is a 4-unit, transferrable course that provides an emphasis on applications in areas related to Behavioral and Social Sciences, such as Psychology and Sociology.  This course is taught by faculty in the Social Sciences Division.
  • Math 015 鈥淓xploration in Quantitative Reasoning鈥 is a 4-unit, transferrable course that provides instruction on many topics relevant to real-life, such as probability, and finance.  Students can elect to take a 0.5-unit, non-transferrable support course Math 115 鈥淪upport for Quantitative Reasoning鈥 along with Math 015.  These courses are taught by faculty in the Mathematics Division.
  • Bus 014A 鈥淢athematical Analysis for Business 鈥 Finite鈥 is a 4-unit, transferrable course that provides the foundational skills that students will need before going on to take Bus 014B 鈥淢athematical Analysis for Business 鈥 Calculus鈥.  These courses are taught by faculty in the Business Division.
  • Math 038 鈥淔oundation of Elementary School Mathematics鈥 is a 3-unit, transferrable course that provides the mathematical skills necessary for students to teach mathematics at the elementary school level.

Support Course
STAT 050 and MATH 015 can be taken paired with a support course. The support courses were designed to give you more time with your instructor and your classmates. If you feel you would benefit from this additional support please consider taking Stat 050 paired with Stat 150 or Math 015 paired with Math 115.
